Hello,
linux 4.12.14-lp150.12.58-default x86_64
gkrellm 2.3.10
The Net monitor has always been a bit useless. Network traffic is
spiky and bursty, meaning that the data flow easily ranges from zero to
10 Mb/sec from one moment to the next. The auto-scaling doesn't really
help all that much since there is no way to know what the range is (is
it 1Kb/sec? 10Mb/sec?).
I was thinking that using a logarithmic scale (log10) would resolve
the display issue for me, both for the chart and the little line under
the chart. Set the max value for log10(100M) or log10(1G).
Is it possible to use a plug-in to achieve this?
I have no problem modifying the code to test this concept. Would
anyone offer some pointers about where to start; what sections of the
code do the scaling for the Net monitor, set maximum values, etc.
